WATERCOLOURS

I have been inspired by Wassily Kandinsky and William Blake to dedicate more time and concentration on watercolour painting.  I think it's a medium that is quite underrated but also more challenging than oil or acrylic. I am up for a challenge!

Abstract watercolour painting no 1, horadam aquarell on A3 300gsm paper. (7 May 2020)
I just love how vibrant and stunning these paints appear on paper.

I used tubes of watercolour cream in this painting. They were really good quality Horadam Aquarell paints by Schmincke. I used cobalt blue light no. 487, cadmium red light no. 349 and cadmium yellow light no. 224.

The paint brush used was a golden maple no. 12, containing fine red pure weasel hair in a cat tongue shape, with a  long birch wooden handle .

The paper used was The Langton by Daler-Rowney, Rough 300 g/m2 A3 (297mm x 420mm).

Lightning 1.  Is my first lightening storm painting after following Ekaterina Smirnova's  YouTube tutorials . She is a brilliant Seattle based artist inspired by science. Find out more her work here.

Sometimes, after painting an abstract picture, you look back at it after a few days and think it's not too bad. This is one of those sort of paintings.
